The Sheldon SOLID Project

SOLID (Science of Learning Instrument Design) is a free program that challenges students to design and create a unique musical instrument from recycled materials

Classrooms learn about the connected worlds of sound, science, and art through fun and interactive live demonstrations given by the Saint Louis Science Center and Sheldon staff.

SOLID teaches students to be problem solvers, think creatively, and follow a design process.

The Sheldon is proud to partner with the Saint Louis Science Center to present this program.

Capacity for the 25-26 school year is currently full. Registration opens in August.

The program includes:

An age-appropriate and engaging live demonstration on the "Science of Sound" given by a Saint Louis Science Center educator.

An age-appropriate and engaging live presentation with a Sheldon teaching artist on instrument design, world music, and the engineering cycle.

Curriculum and student handouts to guide classrooms through the process.
